The Director-Tax performs supervisory assignments in property taxation. This professional will need to be able to work independently, and to exercise competent judgment within generally defined practices and policies in finding and selecting methods/ techniques which meet Company objectives. The candidate needs to be proficient in professional appraisal and legal concepts to be able to resolve complex property tax issues in effective ways. This job also requires detailed analyses of significant and unique issues of a diverse scope where multiple intangible factors come into play. As such, the candidate will need strong interpersonal skills to develop working relationships across a wide range of Company teams (both inside and outside of the Tax Department) so as to draw on knowledge and resources from multiple disciplines in furthering the property tax effort.
Key Responsibilities:
Responsible for property tax valuations, property tax assessment negotiations with taxing jurisdictions, approving property tax filing positions and renditions, and managing regional property tax budget.Develop and maintain relationships with local and state tax authorities in the region to facilitate effective communication, favorable tax negotiations and settlement resolutions.Coordinate with taxing authorities on assessment review and appeals.Provide testimony before taxing boards or other authorities on proposed values, exemptions and/or other disputes.Additional responsibilities include overseeing all internally developed valuation deliverables and managing third-party appraisals and reports, property tax research & planning, supporting, reviewing, and analyzing and interpreting pending and enacted tax legislation, advising senior management of the tax implications associated with Company business activities.Experience:
Candidate should have a minimum of 8+ years of Utility or Telecom property tax experience with Industry or a Big 4 accounting firm (min. of 3 yrs. in centrally assessed property tax area). The candidate is required to have strong working knowledge and understanding of valuation and appraisal theory and concepts.Strong writing skills, extensive Excel spreadsheet analysis, tax research, Microsoft Word, Access (or equivalent database software) and PowerPoint skills are also required.Certified Public Accountant or credential appraiser designation (i.e., ASA, CMI, MAI) is preferred but not required.Joining our team comes with amazing perks and benefits:
